Squeeze Free on MacHeist

MacHeist is giving away free copies of the Mac program, Squeeze. Now, normally Squeeze is available for a price of $9.95, but thanks to MacHeist, it’s free! This is quite a neat and handy program to have on your Mac.

Here’s what it looks like:

Now as you can see, it’s pretty simple looking. If you have a certain folder that’s quite large, let’s say your movies folder. You would simply drag or add that folder in, and that’s it! It will decrease the size of that folder.

Now, your Mac will read that folder exactly how it is, it basically just condenses it. How do you tell how much space you saved? The program will actually show you directly from there!

This was a folder that had about 15 pictures in it, and by adding it to Squeeze, it condensed it, and saved me around 1.46mb of space!

This is defiently a program worth giving a shot. After all, it’s free! So why not try it out for yourself. Available again from, MacHeist.com.

Released Today: Aperture 3

Apples newest addition to the Apple Store arrived today. Aperture 3 was introduced. Now, most Mac users are probably quite familiar with the previous version of Aperture, and will most likely be happy to hear the new features that were incorporated in the Aperture 3. Those new features include…

Faces: If you’re familiar with iPhoto ‘09, you’re most likely familiar with Faces. It is a way for you to tag your friends and families faces. By doing so, iPhoto will automatically detect them for future photos. It works along the same lines in Aperture 3. From there, you’re able to sort them in different projects to narrow down who’s who.

Places: Again this was a big feature that shipped with iPhoto ‘09. Places will let you geotag your items. This is essentially tagging where the pictures were taken from, their exact GPS location. Nice to see that it’s now available in Aperture 3!

Brushes: Apple has now incorporated so many new and neat effects in Aperture 3. With Brushes they’re now 15 set brushes that are set to do the most common tasks, such as correct skin imperfections, reduce saturation, etc.

HD: Aperture 3 now supports HD video clips for using in all of your projects. Nice to see this finally!

There is a free trial available for unsure users to “try out”. The full version is available at a price of $199. And of course, you’re able to upgrade from Aperture 2 to 3 for a price of $99. Nicely done!

iPod XL

So, we all know about the all wonderful iPad (“iPod XL” as it should be called) and buzz is some people see it as something wonderful and others see it as a disappointment. But, I’m not going to talk about it’s ups and down. Besides, it seems that the big downfall is that it don’t support Flash. I will say this: People need to remember that it’s pretty much a big iPod. If I remember, the iPod don’t support Flash so don’t expect the iPod XL to do so. Before you complain on YouTube and Twitter about how people are comparing it to the iPod, shut up and relax… Because it’s true. Sorry.
Now, my thoughts on it may be a bit weird but, I have to nitpick, you know.
The design i think is good. The fact that it replicates the iPod with a simple design makes it look nice. Not too keen on the prices. Put it like this: If I had the money to spend, I’d more likely get a Mac Mini instead. Even if I was to get one, for free, of course (*wink, wink*), I think the most I would do with it is use it as a digital photo frame that can also play YouTube videos. Mainly anime and Japanese batsu games. I mean, it looks good to display photos but to put your iPod/iPhone apps on it would be ridiculous to me. The one thing I don’t like that’s missing but, we all know Apple will add it on a newer model 6 months after it’s fully released, is no camera. It would be nice if it had an iChat app so that’s one interaction point lost. I can see this being ok gifts for grandparents to send and check their email.
What worries me is who in the hell will carry that thing around? It looks like something you would take with you on a long road trip or to do laundry. I can’t see people in Starbucks pulling out the iPad XL. Not to seen rude but, that would be a
douche chill moment for me.
I guess that’s all I needed to say about this new Apple product. I could be right or I could be wrong but remember… It’s just an opinion.

Review: New York Times For The Mac

A few days ago, Danny Minick made a tweet about the new New York Times Adobe Air app that recently came out. He also linked a screenshot, and I seemed really interested in the application. It provides an amazing UI, and very easy to use.
