EchoFon For The Mac – Great Improvements

A few months ago I reviewed the early stages of EchoFon for the Mac. It had great potential but at the time but it didn’t have all the features a normal twitter client would have. However, since then, the App has improved greatly. The user interface has changed completely, and more features from Twitter have been integrated in new versions of the Application.

First Thoughts: Trillian Alpha For The Mac

Chris Pirillo Tweeted a link to Trillian Alpha for the Mac was released. It seems pretty decent for a Trillian app, considering my Review on Trillian for the iPhone was very negative, considering the poor user interface the app provided. However, the Mac version of Trillian is alright, it comes NOWHERE near iChat in stability, but for those of you who want MSN, Yahoo Messenger, or ICQ, and don’t want to use Adium, this would be a good alternative, since it supports the stuff iChat doesn’t.

The list of Clients you can use in Trillian for the Mac.

MacBook Pro Issues

If you follow me on twitter, then you know that my main machine [a MacBook Pro], went down for the count last week. The problem started while I was on Christmas break, but I had no clue. It started while I was reinstalling iLife, I kept getting an error. I should have suspected something right there, but It worked while on the phone with Apple, and I let it go.

Issues 01

Everything was peachy until I dual-booted Ubuntu, and eventually uninstall it. I deleted the partition Ubuntu was on, and Decided to reinstall Snow Leopard. I tried a few times, getting the “Could not copy support files” error each time. I then knew something was wrong. Suspicious of the DVD drive, I tried my Leopard disk a few times. The last time I tried Leopard, It got to one minute left, then failed.

Apple phone support was of no help, telling me I was out of the phone support time frame for my MacBook Pro. The man was nice enough to direct me to an Apple certified technician. He pointed me to Digital Sunrise, 5 miles away from my house.

issues 02

The guy at Sunrise was very polite, and professional. I explained What I thought was wrong, and he went listened to me fully. After he took my MacBook Pro into the shop [5 day waiting list], I played with the 27” iMac and Mighty Mouse. The 27” iMac was awesome, the Mighty Mouse wasn’t as awesome. My mom agreed that the price was worth it on the 27” iMac, which brought me to giggles. Reluctantly, I went home to my Dell PC.

After using my PC for a few days, I really wanted my MacBook Pro back. It’s not that I hate PC’s, it’s that I hate Vista. Well, to my pleasant surprise, Sunrise called two days later and told me I could pick it up. All smiles, I went there and picked it up to find out it was some bad RAM. I could have kicked myself for not thinking of that, it makes so much sense! The best part is that it got fixed for free! If you know how an OS installs, then you know that the RAM is important to the install process. Now I am on my MacBook Pro, all smiles.

Apple “fanboyism” is defacing the company

What’s worse than a Windows fanboy? An Apple one. Sure, the typical Windows fanboy boy will say that the Macintosh cannot play games, and that you cannot build your own “rig”, but it’s the Apple fanboy that is much, much worse.

An Apple fanboy will use nothing other than Apple products. They will worship the image of Steve Jobs. They will ridicule anyone who doesn’t like a certain Apple product. And all they will talk about is Apple, Apple, Apple. Unfortunately, that is how Windows and Linux users will see them; stuck-up and arrogant. And they are somewhat right.

The other day, I posted a tweet on Twitter about how I was sick of the iPhone device. I have a very good reason to be. I am on my 6th replacement iPhone. There is nothing “revolutionary” about replacing a device 6 times in the course of a year. I concluded the tweet with stating that I want Google’s new phone, the Nexus One. Two minutes later, an Apple fanboy stated that I was an “Apple Poser” because I wanted the Nexus One over my new, 6th replacement iPhone.

So apparently, if I don’t use everything Apple makes, I am a poser. Really? Then I have been a poser all this time. I have two PCs, an Xbox 360, a Playstation 3, a Samsung and an HP monitor hooked up to 2 of my Macs, and because NONE of these products are made by Apple, that makes me a poser?

Apple is not the answer to everything. They have made mistakes in the past. The Newton? It failed miserably. The G4 Cube? Lasted 11 months. Apple TV? What a joke. Snow Leopard? The “Vista” of OS X. I have never had so many Mac issues before until I installed Snow Leopard.

Apple fanboys need to get over worrying about what other people use, in terms of computers, MP3 players, phones, etc. Just because it works well and fit your lifestyle, doesn’t mean it fits everyone else’s. After all, these are just machines. Why don’t you Apple fanboys stop humping your Macs and get a girlfriend.
